While Black Labrador Retrievers may dominate the retriever world in numbers, there are the other retrievers – Yellow Labradors, Chocolate Labradors, Golden Retrievers and Flat Coated Retrievers that fall into this category. And don’t forget the Poodle – not just a pretty face, this dog can be a very talented retriever rivaling the best of them. I’ve had the pleasure and honor to paint and draw all these breeds, which are shown here.

Yellow Lab Oil Painting Portrait – “Yaba”
This was a large-size commission of a yellow lab named Yaba. I had to do a lot of research on Golden Rods for this one.
I was commissioned to do this and I like it a lot because of the way I painted the grass. Grass is not an easy thing to painting and when it works, it looks great.
Yellow Lab Oil Portrait – “Champion Yellow”
This is one of the many portraits I did for the national retriever championships – both amateur and open.
Yellow Lab Oil Painting Portrait – “Bones”
Friends of mine in Wisconsin wanted their favored yellow lab “Bones” depicted in the place he likes best – no matter what the weather is.

Landscape with Dog Oil Painting – “Over the Rainbow Bridge”
I always wanted to paint this for some reason. Maybe it’s just the fact I like a lot of space.
Yellow Lab and Owner Oil Portrait – “Rebecca’s Splash”
This was an oil fo my friend Rebecca who would show up as a colorful character at the hunt tests and I asked her to pose – especially with that scarf.
