I “met” Melanie of Melanie & Nicholas a few years ago on line. Being a dog portrait artist myself, I admire others who have the talent to capture not just the likeness, but the personality of those furry creatures.
Melanie and Nicholas are a husband and wife team who live in a beautiful woodland garden area of Wales in the United Kingdom. They produce commissioned works of art in oils and pencils.

Melanie has been drawing her pet portraits in pencils for over 28 years, trained in Natural History Illustration at art college. Her graphite pencils are created on Italian hand-made paper and just like me, she builds up her pencils portraits in layers.
Nicholas is the man behind the oil paint brush, also trained in Natural History Illustration. His works are created on premium linen canvas, creating beautiful oil pet portraits set beside favorite landscapes.
A few images of their commissioned work is shown here – not just dogs, but also cats and horses. To see more of their work and to catch up on life across the pond, please go to their web site: pet-portraitartist.com.
