English Pointer Oil Painting – “Miller’s Pointer”
My friends near Thomasville, Georgia commissioned me to do this oil painting of their favored pointer. It just has the right combination of light and color I think and is not too detailed. Sometimes the best detail is what is left out. An artist friend told me once that “careful is my enemy.” I have always found that sometimes I have to pull back from too much detail to make it look just right. I also am reminded of Fred Astaire’s quotation: “Make it as perfect as you can. Then cut two minutes.”
