This Black Lab acrylic portrait is my second sponsorship painting of the National Amateur Retriever Championship of Candlewood’s Ramblin’ Man. This also appeared on Ducks Unlimited T-shirts and on the cover of the Retriever Journal.
When Ramblin’ Man won his first National Amateur Championship, I donated as my first sponsorship of the National Amateur Retriever Club, a watercolor portrait of his owner and handler, Jim Powers. You can see this painting by clicking here. When he won a second time, I was at a loss at what to do, because I usually painted handler and dog together. But Jim advised a simple head portrait and it turned out to be a popular image.
