This was a surprise commission for my friend Kate. I had to rush over to the house and thought, “How are we going to get four dogs to pose nicely for this – it will take hundreds of photos, because these dogs will be all over the place.” It is rare when taking pictures of multiple dogs to get them to act right for a final painting. So when I arrived, Kate’s husband met me, opened the front door and all four dogs just came out, lied down on the steps and posed perfectly for me.
