Commission a portrait. You may commission a portrait in various sizes and mediums. You can see examples of a wide range of paintings by clicking on the "Mugshots" movie below. Keep in mind that I can work within your budget and timing. These are just a few options and more are available. Portraits can be in any dimension or any complexity that you prefer. For more options, please click here. Shipping You are responsible for shipping and framing of the painting. Shipping and handling varies. I usually ship ground Fed Ex, but you can request 1-2 day service. The packaging is custom and I ship early in the week to ensure you get the art before the weekend. Oil, Watercolor, Acrylic or Graphite - Which is best? Actually, none are better than the other. It all depends upon your taste and preference. I get a bit more detail out of watecolor and graphite. With oil and acrylic, I can get as impressionistic as you want. Keep in mind that with oil, you will want to get it varnished about 6 months later. This can usually be done by a local frame shop or gallery, and if not, I will do it for you. Watercolor and graphite must be framed under glass. How to Order: 1) We discuss your preference and size options. Preferences include medium, subjects, number of subjects and backgrounds. From this information, I can then give you the exact pricing and we can then work within your budget. (Some options are illustrated above.) 2) I can work from any photos you have, or if possible, I'll try to work from my own. If I work from my own photos, it usually takes about 2 hours to take a number of photos that I can use for the final reference. (Your photos can be e-mailed to me at info@ChrisChantland.com.) 3) Using the photos, I come up with at least one or two sketches - more if needed - so that you can approve the final composition. At this stage, I can alter it quite a bit based upon your direction. 4) Once I start the sketches, you put 33% down which is non-refundable, but the other 67% is not required unless you are 100% satisfied with the finished portrait. You can pay by credit card or check by mail. 5) After you approve the initial sketch, I work on the painting. Allow up to 2 - 4 weeks for completion. Some paintings can take longer, depending upon size and complexity. 6) I will give you shipping options and prices. These rates typically range from $50 - $150 depending upon distance and timing. 7) Please keep in mind that I retain copyright of the final image in case I use it on merchandise at a later date. However, you are also free to use it on any merchandise for your own personal use.
